Italy, Feb. 27 -- Fincantieri has laid the keel of the first next-generation U212NFS (Near Future Submarine) at its Muggiano shipyard, formally launching construction of a new submarine class for the Italian navy under a four-boat programme managed by OCCAR, according to the company's statement. The programme includes the construction of four submarines and the development of associated logistical support, with delivery of the first unit scheduled for 2029.
