India, April 29 -- Voter turnout in Phase 2 of the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 surged to 89.99% by 5 PM, surpassing the 2021 turnout of 80.4% for the same constituencies.

The sharp rise in participation reflects strong voter mobilisation across key districts in south Bengal and Kolkata, where polling was held in 142 seats. The phase is considered crucial in determining the electoral fortunes of the ruling Trinamool Congress and its main challenger, the BJP.
