Markandeyan, who represents the Vilathikulam Assembly constituency, was arrested on Monday over allegations of making objectionable remarks against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay. Police took the legislator into custody after his comments at a recent public event were deemed threatening and offensive, triggering legal action.
