India, June 23 -- The United States has announced a proposed $230 million sustainment package for India's fleet of M777A2 ultra-light howitzers, marking another step forward in the growing defence partnership between the two countries.

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor said the support package is ready to be concluded and reflects the strengthening strategic and military ties between New Delhi and Washington. The package is aimed at enhancing the operational readiness, maintenance and long-term performance of the artillery systems already in service with the Indian Army.
