India, Aug. 19 -- A young man was seriously injured in a tiger attack in a village near Kanha National Park (KNP) in Madhya Pradesh's Balaghat district, an official said on Tuesday.

The victim, Santosh Meshram, is undergoing treatment at a local hospital.

KNP Additional Director Sunil Pandre said Meshram, a resident of Kareli village near the national park, had gone to his farm close to the forest when a tiger suddenly attacked him.

Meshram suffered injuries to his head and both hands and is currently under medical supervision. Forest officials are closely monitoring the tiger's movements.

The tiger retreated into the forest after a group of villagers, armed with sticks, approached the animal and made loud noises.
