India, Sept. 3 -- A three-month-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a 35-year-old neighbour in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Mainpuri district, police said on Thursday.

The accused, identified as Jetendra, was arrested on Wednesday following a raid at his suspected hideouts, police said.

The incident took place late Tuesday evening when the infant was at home with her parents in the Bewar area, according to police.

Her mother was cooking dinner while her father was engaged in household chores when the accused, who lived in the neighbourhood and was known to the family, entered the house, police said.
