India, July 16 -- Three people were killed and two others suffered critical injuries after a speeding truck ran over them in Uttar Pradesh's Mirzapur district during the early hours of Thursday. The accident took place in Kundan village on the Varanasi-Shaktinagar highway, where the victims were reportedly walking along the roadside when the truck lost control and struck them.

Police said all five victims were rushed to a nearby hospital, where three were declared dead. The two injured are undergoing treatment and remain in critical condition. The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examination, while police have informed their families.
