India, June 19 -- The Tamil Nadu Assembly on Friday passed a resolution opposing Karnataka's Mekedatu dam project, intensifying the long-standing inter-state dispute over Cauvery river water sharing. The resolution urges the Union government not to grant any approvals, including technical and environmental clearances, for the proposed project.

The motion, moved in the House, received support from allied parties including the Congress, marking a rare political consensus within the ruling alliance.
