Supreme Court Upholds ECI's Special Intensive Revision Exercise in Bihar and Other States
India, May 27 -- The Supreme Court has upheld the Election Commission of India's (ECI) Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Bihar, West Bengal, and other states, stating that the poll body acted within its legal authority. The court observed that the ECI did not exceed its statutory powers while carrying out the voter roll revision process.
The court clarified that the SIR exercise cannot be considered invalid simply because it differs from the usual or traditional process of updating voter lists. According to the judges, the Election Commission has the authority to adopt methods that help maintain accurate and updated electoral rolls, as long as such actions remain within the framework of the law.
