India, June 4 -- A woman clutching a child beside several other persons jumped from different floors of the five-storey building engulfed in a deadly blaze. Locals enabled the rescue by spreading mattresses on the road to cushion the fall in a desperate attempt to save lives. The woman's daring leap went viral.

Videos of the rescue efforts surfaced, showing trapped people smashing window panes and desperately calling for help as thick smoke engulfed the premises and flames spread rapidly.

"A woman holding a young child jumped from the third floor after local residents spread mattresses on the ground below in an attempt to save those trapped inside," a witness said.
