SC to hear plea seeking NDPS probes, confiscation of traffickers' properties
India, Aug. 10 -- The Supreme Court is slated to hear on Monday a plea seeking a slew of directions to strengthen the fight against drug trafficking, including time-bound investigation and trial of narcotics cases, confiscation of properties of traffickers and creation of a uniform investigation protocol across the country.
A bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana is likely to hear the matter. The PIL, filed by advocate Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay, has sought directions to the Centre and states to prescribe mandatory timelines for submission of forensic reports in cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and frame standard operating procedures (SOPs) for search, seizure...
