Russia backs India as Mediator in Middle East Iran-UAE Dialogue Push
India, May 15 -- Russia has suggested that India could play a key role in mediating ongoing tensions in the Middle East, including facilitating dialogue between Iran and the United States as well as Iran and the United Arab Emirates.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov made the remarks during his visit to New Delhi for a BRICS foreign ministers' meeting, highlighting India's diplomatic experience and growing global influence.
Lavrov said that India, as the current BRICS chair, could help bring key stakeholders together for dialogue aimed at long-term stability in the region. He added that New Delhi's strategic position as a major energy consumer gives it a direct stake in ensuring peace and stability in West Asia.
