India, Aug. 13 -- In a rare honour for a former Chief Justice of India, Russia has appointed DY Chandrachud as an arbitrator in a high-stakes investment treaty dispute between Russia and Ukrainian-owned Oschadbank. He retired on November 10, 2024, after serving as the 50th Chief Justice of India.

Justice Chandrachud will represent Russia in an international arbitration tribunal hearing a dispute brought by Ukrainian state-owned bank Oschadbank.

The case pertains to the war between Russia and Ukraine and the claimed impact of military operations on the bank's operations.

The case stems from Oschadbank's claim over assets and business operations in Ukraine's Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions.
