India, Aug. 21 -- The families of workers killed in the Chamoli tunnel tragedy will each receive Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund, with the injured getting Rs 50,000 each, according to a statement issued on Thursday.

Chamoli District Magistrate Gaurav Kumar said the Prime Minister's Office had sent a letter on the matter.

Around 22 workers were trapped inside a three-kilometre-long tunnel in Chamoli's Pipalkoti on August 13, after a landslide caused flooding at the site. Eleven workers died in the incident, and 11 were injured.
