PDP leader calls Burhan Wani 'martyr', questions BJP leaders' visit to militant's family
India, Oct. 9 -- Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Abdul Kabir courted controversy by referring to slain Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani as a "martyr" and questioning why some BJP leaders had visited his family and provided compensation after his death.
Wani, who became a prominent face of militancy in Kashmir, was killed in an encounter with security forces in south Kashmir's Kokernag area on July 8, 2016.
Clarifying his remarks to reporters on Thursday, Kabir said he was questioning the actions of BJP leaders who had visited Wani's home and offered compensation to his family.
