Over 80 houses demolished in Indore road-widening drive, residents allege no compensation or rehabilitation
India, June 15 -- More than 80 houses and shops were demolished as part of a road-widening project between Gutkeshwar Temple and Sadar Bazar Road in Indore, triggering protests from affected residents who alleged they were left without compensation or rehabilitation support.
The Indore Municipal Corporation carried out the demolition drive with heavy machinery, including nine Poklane machines and five JCBs, while over 100 personnel were deployed at the site.
Municipal officials said the action was part of an ongoing infrastructure project aimed at widening the road corridor. However, residents claimed that several of the structures being demolished had been occupied by families for generations.
