India, Aug. 27 -- The Jharkhand government on Thursday sought information from Indian consular authorities in Nepal about workers, tourists and other people from the state who may have been affected by the devastating floods and landslides in the Himalayan country.

The move comes as Nepal continues to grapple with the disaster, with the death toll rising to 177 and more than 300 Indian tourists among those reported missing.

The state government has written to Indian consular officials, the Protector of Emigrants and the Consulate General of Nepal in Kolkata, seeking details of Jharkhand-origin people who have been rescued, are missing or remain stranded, an official said.
