India, July 17 -- A man identified as Nikhil shot his girlfriend, Shubhangi, dead and then turned the weapon on himself in a rented room in Delhi's Burari area on Thursday. The police discovered the bodies when Shubhangi's younger sister returned from work at around 3:30 pm to find both lying on the floor in a pool of blood, and the investigation so far points toward a possible suicide pact.

The couple had been living together in the rented accommodation in the Kamalpur area of Burari for approximately one month. Shubhangi was a native of Uttar Pradesh, while Nikhil was from Haryana and had separately been residing in north Delhi before the two began sharing the rented room.
