India, July 5 -- A 28-year-old man allegedly murdered his wife by repeatedly striking her on the head with a battery before dying by suicide after consuming poison in Delhi's Ranhola area, police said on Saturday.

The incident took place on July 2 in Tilangpur Kotla village, where the couple had been living as tenants for the past six or seven months. According to police, officers reached the spot after receiving information about an attempted murder.

Inside a rented ground-floor room, officers found Nisha, 23, with severe head injuries. She was rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital (SGMH), where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
