India, July 28 -- Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned till 2 pm on Tuesday, minutes after the House convened, amid protests by opposition members seeking a response from the government over police action against protesting students.

Speaker Om Birla urged members to allow Question Hour to continue and said a discussion on the anti-paper leak Amendment Bill would be taken up at 2 pm.

With the opposition refusing to relent, Birla adjourned the proceedings.

The Centre had introduced the Bill in the Lok Sabha on Monday, proposing stricter punishment of up to 10 years in jail and a fine of Rs 50 lakh for offences related to paper leaks.
