India, July 19 -- Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi have written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking an independent and comprehensive investigation into the financial affairs of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, alleging that devotees have been "betrayed" by the reported theft of temple donations.

In their joint letter, the two Congress leaders described the Prime Minister's silence over the issue as "unacceptable" and said that the alleged theft has shaken the faith of lakhs of devotees who contributed to the Ram Mandir with trust and devotion. They urged the Centre to ensure accountability and restore public confidence through an impartial inquiry.
