Jal Jeevan Mission completes 7 years, tap water reaches 15.91 crore rural homes
India, Aug. 15 -- As India prepares to celebrate its 80th Independence Day on Saturday, the Jal Jeevan Mission is set to complete seven years of implementation, with rural tap-water coverage increasing from 3.23 crore households at the time of its launch on August 15, 2019, to more than 15.91 crore households now, according to the Jal Shakti Ministry.
The Jal Jeevan Mission was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 15, 2019, during his Independence Day address.
Rural tap-water coverage has now crossed 82 per cent, while over 2.8 lakh villages have certified themselves as 'Har Ghar Jal' and more than 1 lakh Gram Panchayats have also been certified as Har Ghar Jal, the ministry said.
