Indian Army drops Colonial-Era symbols in new dress code reforms
India, June 14 -- The Indian Army has introduced significant changes to its ceremonial traditions and dress regulations, removing several colonial-era symbols as part of a broader effort to strengthen an indigenous military identity.
Under the new guidelines, reviewing officers at ceremonial parades will no longer carry ceremonial swords, a practice inherited from the British colonial period.
The Army has also decided to discontinue the use of the term "Royal" in references linked to certain historical traditions and ceremonial practices.
Officials said the reforms are aimed at aligning military customs with India's own heritage, values, and national identity.
