India, July 4 -- Several schools and colleges across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) remained closed on Saturday after civic authorities issued precautionary orders in view of heavy rainfall forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The closures were announced by the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) and the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) as intense rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are expected over the weekend.

The KDMC directed all educational institutions, including those affiliated with the State Board, CBSE, ICSE and other recognised boards, to suspend classes for the day. Meanwhile, the NMMC also declared a holiday for schools under its jurisdiction and instructed civic official...
