India, May 24 -- Counting of votes for the Falta Assembly repoll in West Bengal is underway under strict security arrangements, with BJP candidate Debangshu Panda emerging as the clear frontrunner in early trends.

The seat has become one of the most closely watched constituencies in the state due to the controversy surrounding the earlier election process.

The Election Commission had ordered a complete repoll across all 285 booths in the constituency after serious allegations of irregularities, including claims of EVM tampering and violations during the previous voting process.

Fresh polling was conducted on May 21 with heightened security measures and a large deployment of central forces to ensure transparency and smooth voting.
