Election Commission begins SIR drive in 5 states
India, June 30 -- The Election Commission of India (ECI) has launched the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in five states-Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Jharkhand and Meghalaya-to update and verify voter records ahead of future elections. As part of the exercise, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct door-to-door verification of registered voters.
According to the ECI, if a house is found locked, the BLO will make repeat visits. In some cases, officials may leave an enumeration form or a notice requesting the resident to complete the verification later. The objective is to ensure that no eligible voter is left out of the electoral roll.
