India, April 12 -- With passenger safety in focus, the Delhi Metro has launched a week-long awareness drive from April 7 to April 13 across stations to encourage the safe use of lifts and escalators.

The Delhi Metro, at present, is operating and maintaining 965 lifts, 1297 escalators and 42 travelators in its total network. The Kashmere Gate Metro station holds the distinction of having the highest number of escalators anywhere in the world in a metro station, with a record 53 escalators.

Described as a first-of-its-kind initiative in India's metro sector, the campaign forms part of a dedicated Safety Awareness Week aimed at educating passengers on the responsible use of these facilities.
