Delhi Gymkhana Club moves Delhi High Court against Centre's Eviction Order
India, May 25 -- The Delhi Gymkhana Club has approached the Delhi Gymkhana Club against a Central government directive ordering it to vacate its 27.3-acre premises in Lutyens' Delhi by June 5.
The matter was mentioned before the Delhi High Court, where Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi sought an urgent hearing. The court agreed to list the case for hearing on May 26.
The petition has been filed by club member Vijay Khurana, challenging the order issued by the Land and Development Office (L&DO) on May 22. The directive invoked clause 4 of the original lease deed, which allows the government to reclaim the land if it is required for a "public purpose."
