Delhi govt plans onion sale at Rs 35/kg to check price rise
India, Sept. 1 -- The Centre will supply 1,000 metric tons of onions to Delhi, which will be sold to consumers at Rs 35 per kg, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Tuesday, September 1.
The onions will be made available through fair price shops and mobile vans across all 13 districts of the national capital, according to a statement issued by the Delhi Chief Minister's Office.
The government has decided to deploy vans to ensure that affordable onions reach areas where residents may have limited access to fair price shops, the statement said.
Onion prices have risen sharply in Delhi in recent weeks following crop damage caused by rains. At present, onions are being sold in retail markets in the capital at around Rs 50-60 per kg.
