Delhi embraces urban farming for a greener future
India, Aug. 22 -- The hallmark of a truly world-class megapolis is its green lungs, soothing to the eye and beneficial for health, in addition to infrastructure. And the national Capital aims to do so by encouraging urban farming, vegetable gardens and rooftop farming.
The objective is a greener and more sustainable Capital. For residents, the concept could mean growing vegetables, herbs and other plants closer to where they live rather than relying entirely on distant agricultural land.
Plans are also afoot to promote hydroponics, aquaponics and community gardens at the building and plot level, allowing residents and communities to turn up city like Delhi, where availability of land for conventional agriculture is limited.
