India, Sept. 15 -- A 17-year-old Class 12 student died allegedly by suicide in Vaishali here on August 24 after being harassed and threatened by a classmate, according to her family, prompting police to register an FIR against the classmate, his parents and brother.

The girl was a student at a private school in Delhi's Anand Vihar area, police said on Monday.

ACP Suryabali Maurya said police were informed on August 24 that a student had allegedly died by suicide in Vaishali under the Kaushambi police station area. Her family took her to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead, he said.

No suicide note was found at the time of the incident, police said.
