India, Sept. 25 -- Childhood cancer treatment needs to address not just the disease but also the emotional and social needs of children as they regain confidence and return to everyday life, doctors said at an awareness programme in Delhi. The programme was organised by the Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre as part of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, bringing together children undergoing treatment, survivors, caregivers and hospital staff.

According to an official statement, Gauri Kapoor, medical director at RGCIRC's Niti Bagh centre, said the needs of a child change through different stages of the cancer journey and that care must account for the period after intensive treatment as well.
