CBSE Makes Three-Language Study Mandatory for Classes 9 and 10 From July 1
India, May 17 -- The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that students of Classes 9 and 10 will now be required to study three languages starting from July 1, 2026. The move has been introduced in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023.
Under the new guidelines, students must study three languages, with at least two of them being native Indian languages. The initiative aims to encourage multilingual learning and strengthen students' understanding of regional and national languages.
