India, Oct. 26 -- The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has appointed Additional Superintendent of Police-rank officer Ch V Narendra Deve as investigating officer to probe the custodial death of Gade Sai Krishna in Vijayawada, a day after registering cases against seven police officers, The Hans India reported.

A CBI team led by Deputy Inspector General K Siva Subramani visited Vijayawada and began the investigation at Krishnalanka police station.

Sai Krishna was detained by local police in connection with a murder case. Police allegedly assaulted him, resulting in his death in custody, according to the report.

Police allegedly moved his body to a graveyard and performed the final rites without informing his parents.
