India, April 14 -- In order to maintain law and order in the national Capital, the Delhi Police placed its rank and file on high alert and took several proactive security measures to prevent any spill over of the violent factory workers' protest that erupted in the neighbouring Noida on Monday.
It began with factory workers, mainly from the Hosiery Complex in Noida Phase-2 and Sector 60, protesting for a wage hike and better working conditions. The demonstration turned violent with stone-pelting, arson and setting vehicles on fire, vandalism and road blockades, causing massive traffic chaos on routes like NH-9 and near the Delhi-Noida border.
