India, July 6 -- West Bengal Police have arrested 2 people and detained 3 others in connection with the alleged gangrape and murder of an 11-year-old girl in Baruipur, South 24 Parganas district. The victim's body was recovered stuffed inside a sack in the Surjyapur Haat area, sparking widespread outrage and protests.

A senior police officer said one accused was arrested on Sunday night, while another was taken into custody on Monday morning. Three more persons have been detained and are being questioned as part of the ongoing investigation. Police have also constituted a six-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case.
