India, Sept. 4 -- A woman who ran a marathon barefoot to fund the education of her two daughters was honoured on Friday by Beed Collector Vivek Johnson, who also announced financial assistance of Rs 50,000.

Ramabai Ranveer had won the Amrut-2 Marathon organised by Bharatiya Shikshan Prasarak Mandal in Ambajogai on August 29.

Faced with financial hardship and the responsibility of paying her daughters' educational fees, she took part in the marathon barefoot, determined to secure a better future for her children, an official said.

Recognising her extraordinary determination, the Beed district administration felicitated her at a programme held at the District Planning Hall at the Collector's Office, he added.
