Assam Rifles, DRI seize poppy seeds worth Rs 1.31 cr
India, June 22 -- In a major breakthrough against trans-border smuggling and drug trafficking, the Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), seized a massive consignment of poppy seeds valued at Rs 1.31 crore in Assam's Cachar district.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding the movement of contraband, the joint team intercepted a Tata truck on the Silchar Bypass Road late on Saturday evening.
Upon searching the vehicle, security personnel recovered 8,764 kg of high-grade poppy seeds smuggled into the region. Two residents of Silchar have been apprehended in connection with the seizure. The security forces also confiscated the truck and two mobile handsets from their possession.
