India, July 7 -- 5 members of a family were killed and another person was seriously injured after a speeding SUV collided with a truck in Madhya Pradesh's Maihar district in the early hours today, police said.

The accident took place around 1 am near Rigra village on National Highway-30 under the Dehat police station area when the victims were returning to Maihar after attending a birthday celebration.

According to police, the SUV rammed into a moving truck from behind. The impact of the collision was so severe that the vehicle was completely damaged, trapping all six occupants inside.
