3 Air India aircraft damaged at Delhi IGI Airport after storm displaces ground equipment
India, June 8 -- 3 aircraft operated by Air India were damaged at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport after a sudden rainstorm and strong winds displaced ground support equipment, officials said.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening at Terminal 2 of Indira Gandhi International Airport when high-speed winds during a brief but intense storm moved parked ground equipment from its position, causing it to collide with three parked narrow-body aircraft.
According to initial reports, the affected aircraft sustained varying levels of damage. One aircraft is expected to remain grounded for several days for repairs, while the other two are likely to return to service later this week after inspection and maintenance clearance.
