Manila, Aug. 21 -- Another yellow alert has been issued for the Visayas grid, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, as supply remains short against contingency requirements.

In an advisory, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said available capacity is around 2,584 megawatts (MW) while peak demand is expected to reach 2,444MW.

This, as Units 1 and 2 of Therma Visayas Inc. (TVI), a major coal-fired power plant, remain unavailable.

NGCP said seven power plants in the Visayas are unable to operate for August alone, while 20 others have not been operating since 2021.

It said a total of 14 others are operating on derated capacities, bringing the total loss to the grid to around 797.6 MW.
