Manila, Sept. 3 -- The Bureau of Customs (BOC) - Port of Subic has seized PHP162.2 million worth of marijuana, also known as "kush," following an inspection and search of a distressed sailing yacht at the Subic Bay Yacht Club (SBYC) on Wednesday night.

In a news release Thursday, the Bureau reported that the 98.33 kilograms of marijuana was discovered following a tip from mechanics that the vessel might be carrying prohibited or contraband items, prompting authorities to conduct an inspection.

The vessel, manned by Thai and Malaysian crew members, was compelled to seek emergency shelter and repairs at the SBYC after sailing from Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, and originally bound for Taiwan.
