Visayas grid under yellow alert anew Tuesday
Manila, June 16 -- The Visayas grid is under yellow alert status anew on Tuesday, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., as four generating units of major coal-fired power plants remain unavailable, limiting capacity amid high demand.
In an advisory, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said the grid's available capacity during the day is around 2,587 megawatts (MW), while peak demand is expected to reach 2,384MW.
Yellow alert is issued when capacity is inadequate to meet the grid's contingency requirements, with the ongoing issue due to forced outage of units 1 and 2 of the Therma Visayas Inc., unit 3 of the Panay Energy Development Corporation, and unit 1 of the KEPCO SPC Power Corp.
