Manila, July 17 -- The unavailability of generating units 1 and 2 of Therma Visayas, Inc. (TVI) amid the high electricity demand again resulted in the issuance of a yellow alert for the Visayas grid from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday.

Data released by the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) showed that the grid's availability capacity is at 2,725 megawatts (MW), while peak demand is expected to reach 2,495 MW.

A yellow alert status is issued whenever a grid's operating market is inadequate to meet its contingent demand.

The NGCP said seven power plants are not available this month alone, while four have been on forced outage since June, seven since May, one since March, three since 2025, three since 2024, two since 2023, and on...
