Manila, May 22 -- The Visayas grid will again be placed under yellow alert on Friday afternoon, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. and later from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

In an advisory, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said the grid has an available capacity of 2,653 megawatts (MW) against a projected peak demand of 2,485 MW.

A yellow alert is issued when the grid's operating margin falls below the required contingency level.

NGCP said the forced outages of generating units 1 and 2 of Therma Visayas Inc. (TVI) and Unit 3 of Panay Energy Development Corporation (PEDC) since last week have significantly reduced available capacity in the grid.
