Visayas grid remains on yellow alert
Manila, Aug. 20 -- A yellow alert has been issued for the Visayas grid from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday due to limited capacity amid higher demand.
According to a 1 p.m. advisory from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), the available capacity in the Visayas is at 2,613 megawatts (MW), short of the contingency requirement as peak demand is expected to reach 2,504 MW.
NGCP said Units 1 and 2 of Therma Visayas Inc. remain unavailable.
It said seven power plants are on forced outage just this month, while 20 others are not operating as far back as 2021.
NGCP added that 14 other plants are operating on derated capacities, resulting in a total of 810.1 MW loss for the grid.
