Visayas grid on 6-hour red alert anew due to tight power supply
Manila, Sept. 14 -- A six-hour red alert is raised for the Visayas grid on Monday, from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., still due to the unavailability of several major coal-fired power plants.
The grid is also on yellow alert, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Available capacity is around 2,153 megawatts (MW) while peak demand is around 2,462MW, according to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).
NGCP said Units 1 and 2 of the Therma Visayas Inc. and Unit 3 of the Panay Energy Development Corporation remain unavailable.
These power plants are among the 12 facilities that are on forced outage just this month alone that lessen capacity in the grid.
