Manila, June 16 -- University of the Philippines (UP) professor and Project Nationwide Operational Assessment of Hazards (NOAH) executive director Mahar Lagmay on Tuesday said science-based solutions are important in the government's flood mitigation efforts.

The government's multi-sectoral campaign called Oplan Kontra Baha, Lagmay said, is being done comprehensively and with a scientific basis so that investments will not be wasted.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. launched the campaign last year to clear clogged and polluted waterways and drainages in and around Metro Manila to mitigate flooding during heavy rains.
