Trough of LPA, 'habagat' to bring rains over Luzon
Manila, Sept. 12 -- Rains are forecast over Luzon due to the trough of a low-pressure area (LPA) and the southwest monsoon or "habagat," the weather bureau said Saturday.
In its 5 a.m. report, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather specialist Veronica Torres said the bureau is monitoring two low-pressure areas outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
One LPA is located 1,835 km. east of northeastern Mindanao and has a low chance of becoming a tropical cyclone, but may enter the PAR near the Bicol-Aurora area, she said.
Meanwhile, the other LPA is located 900 km. west of southwestern Luzon and has a high chance of becoming a tropical cyclone in the next 24 hours.
