Manila, Sept. 11 -- Inflation in the Caraga Region climbed to 8.9 percent in August, up from 8.6 percent in July, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA-13) reported Friday.

The figure is also higher than the 0.6 percent recorded in the same month last year.

"The region's average inflation from January to August is 7.3 percent," PSA-13 Regional Director Guillermo Lipio Jr.

Transport costs drove last month's acceleration, posting an 18.4 percent inflation rate compared with 16.5 percent in July.

"The main contributors to high transport inflation include fuels and lubricants, which registered 42.2 percent last month compared with 35.6 percent in July, and passenger transport by road, which rose to 21.5 percent from 20.6 percent," Lipi...
